Blue-eyed Boston Terrier, little junk, finds home after “nobody wanted her”

When Tess Nolan, a pet nurse in Australia, met a blue-eyed Boston terrier who was struggling to find an owner, she decided to welcome the adorable pup into her family.

Daphne, who has been with Nolan’s side since March 2020, is now a social media star after her owner shared her story and adventures last year.

“I adopted Daphne because nobody wanted her,” wrote Nolan on a TikTok video that has now more than 9,000 likes.

In the video, Daphne is resting on white sheets, her tongue hanging out and her piercing blue eyes looking into the camera.

“People thought she was weird because of her blue eyes. They thought she was going to have health problems or go blind,” Nolan wrote. “She is perfectly healthy and the cutest dog I have ever met.”

Nolan told TODAY Pets in an email that she previously had a French bulldog who died of aggressive bone cancer at a young age. She knew she wanted another dog that was similar but not the same breed for fear that she would “compare them too much”.

She decided to get a Boston Terrier. The breed has brown eyes, however, some puppies are born with one or two blue eyes, which is due to a genetic abnormality, according to the Boston Terrier Society. Eyesight is usually not impaired; However, in some cases, the group says this can lead to an increased risk of numbness.

Nolan’s original plan was to take Daphne’s brother home with him.

“When I got there there was this puppy, weird white blue eyes, half the size of her brother. I asked the breeder, ‘What is that ?!’ And the breeder told me that she was the dwarf of the litter that no one would have wanted to adopt. Everyone had said they found her eyes scary or ugly and thought she might go blind or have problems growing up, “Nolan said. “The breeder had resigned themselves to the fact that they would keep them because nobody wanted them. I explained to the breeder that I am an animal nurse and, to be honest, I love the unique ones and I would love to have them.”

At first, Daphne was a little “shy” and “a little embarrassed” to get used to her new home. Nolan said her boss warned her that Daphne might have cognitive issues in the future, but she felt ready to deal with them with her training.

“I’ve definitely seen dogs with eyes like hers and I know they can live healthy, happy lives without any problems, but there is a risk that they will go blind or go blind at some point,” she said.

Daphne is now used to her new home and enjoys having adventures with Nolan, who described her dog as “bubbly and energetic,” especially when she brings her to work and meets other dogs.

After Daphne’s story went viral, people praised Nolan for making her a good home and commented on the dog’s unique traits.

“Who doesn’t want a dog with blue eyes ??” one person wrote.

Another person called her “absolutely beautiful! She deserves a GOOD home & I’m glad she is with you. I would have given her a home too. What a cute fur baby !!!!” someone else added.

Nolan said she was happy to share her special dog with the world.

“People on Tik-Tok react very differently to Daphne! Some people laugh at their tongues and I’m always asked, ‘What’s the matter with her?’ ”She said. “I always tell people that she’s fine, she’s just unique.”
