Can dogs eat mozzarella? You might have wondered if there’s something you could share with your dog while shredding up some mozzarella to add to a homemade pizza or caprese salad. If humans can eat mozzarella, can dogs eat it safely?

There is no short yes or no answer whether dogs can safely eat mozzarella cheese. It is not technically toxic to dogs, unlike blue cheese, which should generally be avoided. But mozzarella cheese can upset lactose-intolerant dogs.

The health benefits that mozzarella cheese can offer your dog are also outweighed by its fat content. Eating too much fatty food can increase your dog’s risk of developing canine obesity, which in turn can lead to a whole host of other associated medical problems.

So feel free to feed your dog mozzarella cheese as an occasional treat, but keep it on the menu moderation.
