A recent report looked at which puppies are the most popular in New York City and across the country.
Rover.com published America’s Most Popular Dog Breeds of 2021, which lists the 20 most popular dog breeds in the country and the five hottest dog breeds in 35 US cities. According to their findings, the most popular breed in New York City is the Cockapoo.
Second place for the New Yorkers went to the Havanese, followed by the French Bulldog. The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the American Pit Bull Terrier are respectfully in fourth and fifth place.
“Every dog, regardless of shape, size or breed, has a unique ability to offer us unconditional love and emotional support – and this year has shown how much we need them,” said Jaffe. “Although the ideal companion looks different for everyone, all animal parents can come together to a common appreciation for the lasting bond that we have with our dogs.”
Mixed breed dogs were the most popular nationwide, followed by the Labrador Retriever. In third place was the Golden Retriever, followed by the German Shepherd and the Goldendoodle. According to the report, the Golden Doodle has been growing in popularity since 2016, with Goldendoodles being the second most popular puppy breed, with mixed breed breeds being the most popular.
“With millions of pet parents in the US welcoming new dogs to their families over the past year, we’ve found doodles are skyrocketing, making up one in ten new pets added to our platform,” said Rover Pet Trends expert Kate Jaffe. “Among the puppies, mixed breeds and Goldendoodles led the pack nationwide, making them the official breeds of the ‘pandemic puppy’ boom.”
