Dog Tricks and Treats: Pets compete for best Halloween costume in Boston – Boston News, Weather, Sports

BOSTON (WHDH) — No question it was a hell of a day for a dog costume contest Saturday in Boston.

After a pet parade at Downtown Crossing, nearly 100 dogs competed to win the best costume at an all-ages event, with face painting and fall treats available for all in attendance.

“There was this family dressing up like the owner was the house and then the little dogs were the old man,” said event-goer Zoe Gruskay.

“Very impressive! Very impressed with the Up [costume]said Lauren Harder, a visitor from San Francisco. “Bill Belichick’s was really good.”

The Up movie costume inspired by the 2009 Pixar movie made an impression. But also the costume of a certain athletic trainer from New England.

Jim Juppe from Tewksbury competed as Bill Belichick for the sixth year running.

When asked which quarterback would open Sunday’s game, “Both!” he said in classically vague Belichick style. “Make your choice!”

The weather was perfect for pooches and owners alike.

In all, the judges saw over thirty different breeds of dog, but House Targaryen took home the grand prize.

“I sewed the costume while we were watching the season finale,” said grand prize winner Colleen Court. Her dogs were dressed up as dragons from HBO Max’s House of the Dragon.

“I feel good for them because they were so good in terms of costumes!” she said.

“People put a lot of work and imagination into it,” said Captain Robert Ciccolo, the competition’s guest judge. “And it’s always nice to see the enthusiasm.”
