If you’ve been thinking about getting a new dog, you’re not alone – Kennel Club numbers show that the number of people looking for puppies rose about eight percent during the lockdown.
But with 221 different breeds of purebred dogs to choose from, there is a lot of thought to be found before choosing the newest four-legged friend in your family – whether you want a large dog, family-friendly dog, or a crossbreed.
Different breeds of dogs also tend to have very different personalities – with some dogs being suspicious of strangers and being happiest staying home with their families.
Others are happy to get along with everyone – both humans and dogs – and thrive in meeting new people and making new friends.

The most popular dog in a given park is likely a golden retriever. This breed loves their family but still has plenty of affection left to shower anyone else they meet on any given day.

The Labrador Retriever is the most popular dog in the UK for good reason – he has a wonderfully sociable temperament. In fact, one potential problem with Labradors is that they love people too much and find it difficult to keep their distance when someone is scared of dogs.
