A large number of us decided last year to welcome new puppies into our homes – dog ownership has increased nearly eight percent, according to the Kennel Club figures – and demand for four-legged friends remains high after the lockdown.
There are a whopping 221 different breeds of pedigree dogs in addition to numerous crossbreeds to choose from.
There are even scientific guides in which the psychologist Stanley Coren in his book “The Intelligence of Dogs” classifies the breeds according to instinct, obedience and adaptability.
It should be noted that some dogs are not as easy as others when it comes to food.
Breeds like the Labrador Retriever will eat pretty much anything (causing their own problems) while other breeds tend to eat very little or even refuse food.

The challenge with a Boston Terrier is to find a suitable food that he likes. Once you crack that, you shouldn’t have a problem with them eating. A little trial and error is required.

In the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, it is a case of feast or famine – they either suck up whatever they can get their paws on or they refuse to eat. Fixed meal times and strict portion control are important in getting this breed into a well-established routine.

This is certainly the case with food – your tried and trusted favorite food can be turned down one day for no good reason the next. The key is to be firm and not be forced to give them treats to tempt them back to their dinner.

Pushy eating frenchies is nothing new, and finding a eating routine that works can be frustrating. Some recommended tactics include feeding in a cooler room, pouring chicken broth over the feed, or hand-feeding.
