Man Utd news: Donny van de Beek and Anthony Martial have instant impacts after transfers

Manchester United have made the decision to temporarily part ways with Donny van de Beek and Anthony Martial – and while Ralf Rangnick’s side continue to struggle, the pair on loan are thriving.

Positive news at Manchester United is hard to come by these days, so it’s no surprise that the two good club-related stories of the weekend are, in fact, a far cry from Old Trafford.

As Ralf Rangnick’s side limped to another draw, in which they impressed once again in the first half before conceding almost immediately in the second, two senior players were enjoying themselves elsewhere.

Donny van de Beek made his first start in Everton’s impressive 3-0 win over Leeds United. And Anthony Martial played 82 minutes as Sevilla picked up all three points at home to Elche.

Oddly, or maybe not for eagle-eyed fans of both players, they enjoyed similar personal success.

Both had goal implications. Van de Beek’s cross was eventually brought home by Seamus Coleman while Martial directly set up Rafa Mir for Sevilla’s second.

And both were named man of the match for their respective teams.

Everton boss Frank Lampard couldn’t hide his admiration for the full-time Dutchman’s performance.

“I kind of expected that, because I knew Donny as an outside player, I brought him here because of his talent in terms of playing ability, his intelligence, his ethics hard work, a really smart and technical player,” Lampard said.

“He was part of a very strong type of work ethic performance, he matched the other players in that sense, he gave us a sense of calm, he tied the game together, looked confident on the ball and that’s exactly what I brought him here to do.”

“I think he can play different roles, and that was the beauty and why I moved so fast to try and get him when I arrived.”

While Sevilla coach Julen Lopetegui was quick to point out the Frenchman’s ability after his home debut.

“He’s a footballer [has] arrived now, the adaptation, the time and the demands are great,” the Spaniard said via LIKE.

“He just didn’t play for his team.

“He can play in multiple positions. He has that ability, the most important thing is what we do in every game.”

It’s hard to watch and read for United fans who have seen their team struggle in an attacking sense lately.

Limp’s draws against Southampton and Burnley followed an FA Cup exit at the hands of Middlesbrough, who again finished 1-1 after 90 minutes.

However, seeing Van de Beek and Martial thrive means United have done one thing right with both players’ loan terms; neither deal included an option to buy Everton and Sevilla.

Although it may seem like Van de Beek and Martial are unlikely to succeed at United, club bosses are certainly not taking any chances.

If both players can prove their worth as United continue to struggle, then Rangnick and Co. will no doubt be delighted to bring in these two next season.
