GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) – The East Side and Middle Section of the Las Colonias Grass Run Dog Park will be closed for the season October 10, 2022 through June 2023.
Although the east and middle sections will be closed, there are still two wood chip dog parks on the west side that remain open year-round for owners and their furry friends.
One area is for senior and small dogs and the other area is for active and large dogs.
Several sections are important to house owner and dog in the future to keep the grass and soil healthy for years to come. When the grass is dormant during the fall, winter, and early spring months, impact and traffic will affect the health, quality, and longevity of the lawn. Without maintenance, the area would become dusty and muddy after rains.
On the north side of Grand Junction, Canyon View Park has another sprawling dog park that remains open and prepared for the increased traffic caused by the seasonal closure of Las Colonias.
Canyon View Dog Park and Las Colonias Dog Park are the only two areas in city parks that allow off-leash pets. The leash law is enforced by Mesa County Animal Control Services, which can issue subpoenas to owners of off-leash pets.
