Dog trainer Victoria Stilwell from Animal Planet’s me or the dog talks about how asking a dog’s consent to be petted or played with can further reduce dog bites. Stilwell will be guests at a Facebook Live event on April 11 at 1:30 p.m. I’m hosting this live panel discussion calledTake action against dog bites together, presented by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). Stillwell is on the panel of experts to launch Dog Bite Prevention Week. She also discusses how punitive and punishment-based trainers can actually induce aggression in dogs.
AVMA President Dr. José V. Arce is another panelist at this April 11 event, and here he is speaking with Steve from a conference he is attending in Dubai. dr Arce explains that painful dogs are more likely to bite. Vets are trained to find pain that a dog might otherwise be masking.
