If you’re thinking of getting a dog through the lockdown, you’re not alone – the Kennel Club says the number of people who welcomed new dogs into their homes over the past year has risen to around 250,000.
However, some people find it impossible to be around a dog because they have allergic reactions to their hair that can cause sneezing, watery eyes, and even a rash.
Fortunately, there are a number of breeds that shed very little hair, so no one would have to go without a dog.

The Labrador Retriever may be the UK’s most popular dog, but it does shed a large amount of hair. The Labradoodle is a mix of a Labrador and the far more hypoallergenic Poodle, which makes the dog much less hair-shedding and less likely to trigger your allergies.

The Affenpinscher, also known as the Monkey Terrier, has fairly wiry hair, which is less of a problem for allergy sufferers.
