Triple ban on talaq helped empower women, says Javadekar

On the first anniversary of the passage of the triple talaq bill in parliament, the BJP on Thursday hailed its impact, saying it has helped empower women and gave women the dignity they deserve. ‘they deserve in society.

“A year ago, on July 30, 2019, Narendra Modi’s government abolished #TripleTalaq. It has helped empower women and give them the dignity they deserve in our society. Today, #TripleTalaq cases have fallen by 82% since the law was enacted. Union minister and party leader Prakash Javadekar tweeted.

Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi shared videos of Muslim women thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for passing legislation to end the practice on Wednesday.

The Muslim Women (Protection of Marriage Rights) Act prohibits the practice of instant divorce by Muslim men. Any violation of the law is punishable by imprisonment for up to three years.
