Heroes are never really on vacation.

A young man jumped into action and rescued a dog that was stuck in a thick reed in a lake. According to the dog’s owner, the beloved pet would likely have drowned had it not been rescued so quickly.

Connor Telfer rescued a dog named Charlie from a lake in the Penllergare Valley Woods.

Connor Telfer was on vacation when he decided to stop by Penllergare Valley Woods in the UK with his girlfriend and her mother, the Southwest News Service (SWNS) reports. There he ended up on the same beach as Jane Warner, who had her two dogs with her.

Charlie, one of the dogs, ran in and out of the water and eventually started chasing some ducks around.

“We all laughed, it was so fun to see the ducks leading him around and around,” Warner told SWNS. “However, our moods suddenly changed when the ducks led Charlie into a reed and swam away from him.”

The little dog was apparently stuck in the reeds and was clearly having trouble staying afloat.

“Connor didn’t hesitate,” Warner explained, “just threw off his sneakers and was right in the water and right to Charlie, who had gone under at this point. Connor grabbed Charlie, but got himself caught in the reeds and stepped to unravel and paddled with difficulty several times under them until they got back to the bank. He set Charlie down and just collapsed on a nearby rock at the water’s edge. “

Apparently Connor had never swum, which made the rescue “more incredible” in Warner’s eyes.

She said, “He said the water was deeper than he thought and he couldn’t get his feet up and really struggled. Since it was freezing cold, he shivered, vomited and was clearly in shock. It was amazing to see Charlie back to himself.” to bring shore. “

Warner continued, “Charlie is my world, I’m chronically ill and he and Titch are a huge lifeline for me on days when I can’t even get out of bed.” I’m taking Connor to dinner tonight as a big thank you and I will also give him a reward. “
