Victoria Family Wants Justice For Jacque After Their Dog Is Euthanized

VICTORIA, Texas – Alyssa and Gage Del Bosque come to terms with the loss of their beloved dog Jacque, who they think should be here today. Animal Control knocked Jacque down following an accident in which Jacque bit a neighbor, but the Del Bosque family feel that Jacques’s case was mishandled.

One day when Jacque got out, a neighbor helped him catch him, but when she picked him up, she didn’t know that Jacque had a back injury which caused him to bite his lip when she picked him up, leading to Victoria Animal Control got involved, and things began to turn bad for the Del Bosque family. We have contacted Victoria Animal Control and are waiting for feedback.

“I never thought it would come to this,” says Gage, who said that Jacques Fall was moving so fast that he didn’t have time to process everything that was happening.

The neighbor expressed that she did not want Jacque to be euthanized and even took responsibility for the incident, which she expressed in a written letter, but the Del Bosque family feel that animal control did not take this into account, and Jacque was still euthanized.

When Victoria Animal Control took the case to the judge, the incident was classified as Serious Personal Injury (SBI), which in most cases ends with the dog being euthanized. The Health and Safety Code’s bylaws classify SBI as “… an injury characterized by severe bite wounds or severe muscle strain that would cause a reasonably prudent person to seek medical treatment and require hospitalization, whether or not the person actually “sought medical treatment.” You can read the full bylaws here. The Del Bosque family said their neighbor was only treated for her bite and was not hospitalized, which left them wondering why Jacques Fall was listed as an SBI. Rather than qualifying as an SBI, the family said Jacques Fall should have been classified as a dangerous animal, which would have allowed them to contest the case and potentially save Jacques life.

“Not only did they destroy him, they destroyed my soul … as if it crushed me,” says Gage.

The couple also have unanswered questions about Jacques’ body or ashes and why he was euthanized.

“Ashes or something and nobody tells us why … nobody explains anything to us,” says Alyssa.

Megan Driver, founder of Saving Animal Lives, says why this incident is important for other pet owners to understand what could happen if their pet bites someone.

“If your dog never has any offenses, doesn’t mind, has never shown aggression and he bites, do we just kill him? Are we doing this in Victoria, Texas? Because of an incident, an accident, are we going to kill her? ”Says Driver.

Gage also stated that the incident weighs heavily not only on him, but also on his family, now that Jacque is gone.

“Not only my wife and daughter, but like my mother, my friends are all outraged, everyone is hurt, everyone is crying. My wife shouldn’t have to be strong for me because she’s pregnant, and she shouldn’t be so stressed because it’s not good for our unborn child, ”says Gage.

The Del Bosque family said they now only want responses from Victoria Animal Control if they get Jacques’ body or ashes. The family also said they supported Jacque within the Victoria Community with several billboards around town that said, “#JusticeForJacque”. They hope to be able to set up a dog park in Jacques honor one day.
